Following a report earlier that Israel and Syria were aiming to sign a security agreement by the end of September, US envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack says the two countries are not close to inking a deal.
Barrack tells Channel 12 and Axios reporter Barak Ravid that Damascus and Jerusalem are “both negotiating in good faith.”
“They have mutual intent and desire, but at the moment, there is still more work to do,” Barrack says, adding that “constructive dialogue between these nation states is the on-ramp to a long-lasting understanding that will be the preface to stability and prosperity in the region.”
