One man was killed and another was moderately injured after a bomb that was being transported on a motorcycle exploded shortly after 1 a.m. Monday at the Yagur junction near Haifa.
Police suspect that the explosion was unintended and the two men involved had connections to organized crime.
Paramedics at the scene of the blast declared one of the men dead immediately while the other was taken to Haifa’s Rambam hospital for treatment.
Zvulun Police chief Ilan Serdel said both men involved in the explosion have been identified and police are investigating the incident, according to Israeli news site Ynet.
This incident is not the first time members of various organized crime gangs have accidentally detonated a bomb intended for assassinations against rivals.
