An 8-year-old boy was pronounced dead Tuesday morning after he was hit by a bus in Kibbutz Kfar Menahem, near the southern city of Kiryat Malachi.

The incident occurred in a school parking lot. The child was crossing at a crosswalk, but was not seen by the bus driver and was run over, Israel Radio reported.

Medical and emergency personnel were called to the scene and attempted to save the victim but were unsuccessful, police said.

Students and teachers at the school were said to be shaken up following the death.

“We are in complete shock and the kids don’t know how to digest this,” one mother at the school told Ynet news.

The incident comes a day after a 6-year old girl was killed after being struck by a minibus in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat.

Following that killing, the driver was arrested and questioned.
