Route 1 blocked for hours after 20-vehicle crash

6 injured in accident on major highway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv

Route 1, one of Israel’s major highways, was closed to traffic between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Saturday night due to a car crash involving 20 vehicles, one of them a bus.

Six people were lightly injured in the crash, which occurred between the Shoresh and Sha’ar HaGai interchanges just outside Jerusalem.

Following the crash, the northbound section of the highway was blocked to traffic, as the road had become slippery with motor oil. Heavy traffic was also reported on the southbound section.

The road reopened to traffic several hours later.
