Police announce that the detention of Asher Goldstein, who confessed yesterday to murdering his five-year-old son decades ago, has been extended by three days.

Goldstein, 88, arrived at the Eilat police station yesterday and admitted to drowning his son with cerebral palsy off the city’s coast in 1974, claiming he did so out of a sense of mercy.

He went on to murder his wife two years later, in 1976. He attempted to stage the killing as a car accident, but was arrested alongside his co-conspirator, Israel Omri, after the fact. Goldstein was convicted and imprisoned for 11 years.

Goldstein will remain in police custody until August 27, law enforcement officials say.
