The Hostages Forum calls on Transportation Minister Miri Regev to increase train services into Tel Aviv on Tuesday for the large expected protest calling for a ceasefire-hostage deal.
The organization said that 500,000 attended a similar demonstration in Tel Aviv last Sunday, with over one million protesting nationwide.
“Hundreds of thousands of citizens are expected to arrive from all over the country to participate in the [Tuesday] evening events, and the increase in train services is required to prevent congestion and allow the public to arrive safely,” the forum says in an open plea to Regev, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party.
“The Transportation Ministry’s responsibility is to allow full accessibility to every citizen who wishes to stand alongside the families and make their voices heard,” the forum says.
On Tuesday, a march is set to leave Tel Aviv’s Savidor Central train station at 7 p.m. and head for Hostages Square for the main rally at 8 p.m.
The center of the country, which already sees heavily snarled traffic much of the time, is also currently seeing train disruptions due to an accident earlier this month. While many lines were restored this morning, train services are only expected to return to full schedule by September 1.
