Justice Minister Levin changes lock on office also used by AG, says she’s no longer allowed to use it

Justice Minister Yariv Levin instructed his driver earlier today to change the locks on an office used by Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, Channel 13 reports. Channel 12 says it is an office in the government complex in Tel Aviv that has been used by both the justice minister and the attorney general for the past decade.

The move comes after the High Court of Justice issued an interim order freezing the government’s dismissal of the attorney general until further notice and noting that her status must not be undermined.

Levin, who is one of Baharav-Miara’s most vocal opponents, confirms that his driver changed the locks on the office, but claims that he did so because the attorney general was using it without permission after she was fired, the two TV reports say.

Calling the reports “nothing short of delusional,” Levin says “the office is the minister’s office, and not attorney Baharav-Miara’s.”

“Her attempt to make unauthorized use of the minister’s office is another example of puzzling behavior on the part of someone who has already been removed from her position.”

Notably, Levin refers to Baharav-Miara as just “attorney,” rather than by her title of attorney general, as he now claims she no longer holds the post.

Despite Levin’s claims, Baharav-Miara has not been removed from her position, and the High Court has stressed that her duties and authorities remain unchanged for as long as its interim order against her dismissal is in place.
