Police chief to convene special meeting on ongoing Arab crime crisis after 6 killed

Police commissioner Danny Levy will hold a special meeting this evening on law enforcement’s fight against the ongoing spate of crime plaguing Arab society, after six members of the community were killed over the past two days.
“The chief commissioner will convene a meeting with the participation of the Israel Police’s senior command, in order to examine the ways to strengthen operations against criminal organizations, particularly in Arab society,” police announce in a statement.
This morning, 30-year-old Adnan Rihani was shot and killed in Yafia, near Nazareth, becoming the sixth person to fall victim to homicide since Sunday.
Yesterday, a deadly shooting in Taybeh, two car bombings in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and a double homicide in Qalansawe left five Arab citizens dead within 24 hours.
This week’s spike in killings comes amid a years-long surge in violent crime among Israel’s Arab minority, which worsened in 2023, when the homicide rate doubled, and reached an all-time peak last year, when 252 Arab Israelis were killed in crime-related incidents.
The Abraham Initiatives, which tracks the homicide rate in Arab society, reports that Rihani’s death brings this year’s toll up to 143 victims, a 12 percent increase year-over-year.
