Report: Likud minister under investigation on suspicion of pocketing ministry funds
Social Equality Minister May Golan is reportedly being investigated by police in Lahav 433’s fraud investigations unit on suspicion of attempting to pocket money from her own ministry through a deal with senior figures in several emergency response organizations, Channel 12 reports.
The Likud politician and several prominent figures involved in Israeli social-welfare groups are alleged to have engineered a deal in which her ministry would give money to ZAKA for a program ostensibly aimed at aiding the elderly, while in reality, the money would go to her and associates.
Golan rejects the allegations, saying that “this is a false claim from start to finish.”
Earlier this year, police received authorization from the State Attorney’s Office to investigate Golan on suspicions of widespread nepotism in her office and dubious fundraising methods for an anti-migrant NGO she founded.
