Top Democrat in US House cosponsors bill to codify Biden-era sanctions on violent settlers

US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has decided to join over 130 other Democratic colleagues in cosponsoring legislation to codify sanctions on violent settlers that were first put in place by former president Joe Biden before being reversed by President Donald Trump on his first day in office.
Jeffries’ decision to become a cosponsor of the West Bank Violence Prevention Act demonstrates its widespread support among Democrats, given that the minority leader has been one of the party’s most ardent backers of Israel.
It also comes against the backdrop of another uptick in unchecked settler violence across the West Bank.
A version of Representative Jerrold Nadler’s bill in the Senate has over 40 Democratic cosponsors as well.
Neither has any chance of passing, given current Republican control of Congress and the White House.
