Two women were killed Wednesday evening when the car in which they were traveling apparently hit another car and a street light in southern Israel, while a third person was killed in a separate incident after being hit by a truck in a possible murder.

Both women were declared dead at the scene.

A 39-year-old woman from the second car was taken to Barzilai hospital with light injuries.

The accident occurred at the Revaha Junction, at the entrance to a rural community of the same name on Route 35 between Ashdod and Kiryat Gat.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the car in which the young women were traveling failed to give way at an intersection and crashed into a car passing on the road, before smashing into the streetlight.

There is no traffic light at the intersection.

Elsewhere, a pedestrian in his 20’s, Muhammad Zriki, died Wednesday night after being hit by a truck on a highway near the Lower Galilee town of Kafr Kanna. A second person who was with him was lightly injured

Police were searching for the driver and suspected foul play may have been involved after a domestic dispute broke out, the Ynet news web site reported.

The identity of the driver, who was apparently involved in the row, is known to police, Ynet said.

Arguments between families broke out in the village after the incident and village leaders were said to be trying to calm the anger. A large police force was in Kafr Kanna to try to keep the peace.

Zriki married a year ago and became a father two weeks ago, a relative told Ynet, saying the dead man was “a respected person who didn’t look for problems.”

Even before Wednesday night, September was already shaping up to be a grisly month on Israel’s roads.

On September 10, a 6-year-old Palestinian girl was killed after being hit by a car near the entrance to the Israeli West Bank settlement of Efrat, south of Bethlehem.

On the same day, four people died in a head-on collision between two cars on a highway outside of Haifa on Saturday night.

On Saturday, one person was killed Saturday and two more were severely hurt in a car accident near the Hemed intersection on Route 1 between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
