Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Public Security Minister Omer Barlev, who oversees the police, have approved NIS 181 million ($57 million) in emergency funding for Israel Police following a string of deadly terror attacks.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office says the funds will be invested in providing officers with more equipment, recruiting reservists, and establishing a new brigade based on Border Police reserve officers.
In the statement, Bennett says, “Strong police equals a strong State of Israel. We are working with all tools and in all areas to restore security, and a sense of security to the citizens of Israel.”
The PMO says NIS 111 million ($35 million) will be transferred immediately, and another NIS 70 million ($22 million) by the end of August.
“This is a real tiding for increasing citizens’ personal security. The immediate intensification plan for Israel Police, agreed upon tonight by the prime minister, is an unprecedented milestone, expressing trust and strength in the Israel Police,” Barlev says in the statement.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
