US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has held a phone call with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the State Department says.

Blinken, who is currently on a solidarity visit to Israel, has held a series of calls with counterparts in the region as the US works to prevent other actors from joining the war against Israel and also to push Mideast allies to stand with the Jewish state against Hamas, a US official told The Times of Israel on Tuesday.

During the latest call, Blinken and Bourita discussed the Hamas onslaught and efforts to prevent regional escalation and secure the release of the hostages held in Gaza, the State Department says.

Blinken praised “Morocco King Mohammed VI’s commitment to peace and security in the region and welcomed continued close cooperation between Morocco and the United States,” the US readout says.

Morocco is party to the 2020 Abraham Accords, which normalized ties between Israel and several Arab countries.
