Tens of thousands of people are attending pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel marches across Australia, organizers say.
There are demonstrations at some 40 locations, in what organizers say is the largest pro-Palestinian protest in Australian history.
Demonstrators are demanding sanctions on Israel and an end to Australia supplying parts for Israeli fighter jets, the Guardian reports.
The outlet says the crowds are chanting “occupation no more” and “sanction Israel now.” Some signs declare Israel a “terrorist state” and equate it with Nazi Germany.
The protest comes amid an escalating diplomatic crisis between Israel and Australia since Canberra declared it would recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September.
