IDF soldier lightly hurt by gunfire near Hebron

An IDF soldier was shot and lightly injured on Sunday, south of the West Bank city of Hebron.

The soldier was reportedly shot in the leg at Hakvasim Junction.

The gunman fled the scene of the shooting attack, which was the third attack of the day on Sunday.

Palestinian media reports maintained the shooter was the same gunman who shot a female soldier earlier Sunday. The reports identified the shooter as the “phantom sniper” of Hebron.

Hours earlier, a female Israel Defense Forces soldier was moderately to seriously wounded in a shooting attack near the Tomb of the Patriarchs holy site in Hebron, according to the army. The soldier had a bullet wound in her pelvis, according to the Magen David Adom emergency medical services. She was evacuated to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment.

Palestinian media reported that the sniper fled the scene following the shooting.

In early November, 2015, a 16-year-old Israeli was seriously injured and an 18-year-old was lightly wounded in a shooting attack in the parking lot of the holy site. That gunfire also reportedly came from the Abu Sneineh neighborhood. The perpetrator or perpetrators of the November shooting were not apprehended.

Also Sunday, a Palestinian youth attempted to stab an Israeli in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood, but the knife failed to pierce the skin.
