An Israeli soldier from an elite combat unit was lightly injured Wednesday when another soldier accidentally shot him in the course of a training exercise.
Paramedics administered first aid on the scene and took the injured soldier to Tel HaShomer hospital, Channel 2 reported.
The IDF said it would open a special investigation into the circumstances of the accident, led by the commanders of the army’s counterterrorism training unit and the ground forces.
Three weeks ago, an IDF soldier was lightly injured in a shooting incident at a base near Kibbutz Alumim in the Western Negev. An investigation found that a tank commander had forgotten to unload the heavy machine gun from a tank, and a commander who came to the tank after him accidentally fired a shot that hit the soldier in the neck.
And in June, a soldier at a base in the North was moderately injured when he discharged his personal firearm. An investigation concluded that he had fired the gun accidentally.
