Nazareth-area woman dies in house fire

A 64-year-old woman died of smoke inhalation on Saturday afternoon after a fire ripped through her home in the Nazareth-area town of Kfar Yafia, police said.

The woman was taken to the English Hospital in Nazareth with moderate injuries, but her condition deteriorated and she died shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.

Police and the fire department have opened an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fire that broke out in the three-story building

At least four people have been killed in house fires in Israel since the start of 2017. In February, an infant was killed in a house fire in the Negev town of Tel Sheva. A month earlier, a woman and her three children were killed when a fire broke out in their Ein Nakuba home, near Jerusalem.

Investigations into both incidents concluded that electric space heaters were likely the cause of both fires.
