Panic broke out at Tel Aviv’s Carmel Market on Friday afternoon when an apparently mentally ill man was spotted with a knife, police said.

Officers quickly arrested the man. No serious injuries were reported, but two people were treated for shock, police said.

The Israeli man was “known to [mental] health care professionals,” police said.

The commotion began when the man who was clutching a blade broke into a run through the popular marketplace. Frightened visitors could be heard shouting, “Terrorist! Terrorist!” assuming the man was a Palestinian attacker, according to police and eyewitnesses.
