Three people were killed and three were seriously injured after Israeli and Palestinian vehicles collided head-on in the central West Bank on Friday.

The victims were a six-year-old Israeli boy, whose name was not immediately cleared for publication, along with the two Palestinian passengers in the other car, 17-year-old Ahmad Salem and 19-year-old Ziad Ibrahim Shalesh.

Initial reports indicated the crash was caused by the Palestinian car, which illegally made a U-turn into oncoming traffic on Route 465 near the Ofarim Junction.

Magen David Adom medics dispatched to the scene were forced to declare the deaths of the three victims shortly after their arrival. Firefighters were dispatched to evacuate two of the trapped victims and an MDA helicopter flew the injured to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.

The Israeli car was carrying members of the same family and the three survivors who were rushed to Beilinson in serious condition were a nine-year-old girl, a man in his 30s along with his pregnant wife. Doctors were working to save the life of the fetus.

The initial police investigation also indicated that the car being driven by the Palestinians was made up of illegally dismantled parts from other vehicles.

Last weekend, a Palestinian child was seriously injured when the vehicle he was in crashed into a wall on Route 60 in the West Bank, south of Nablus.

Magen David Adom paramedics gave the nine-year-old preliminary care and took him to Beilinson.

A second person, aged 20, was taken by the Red Crescent to a Palestinian hospital. He suffered only mild injuries.

Earlier that day, a resident of Taybeh was seriously injured when his vehicle hit a fence near a train track in Haifa. The 25-year-old and a passenger who was with him in the car were taken to Rambam Medical Center for treatment.
