“In Akko today to hear from the local leadership with the aim of calming the situation. These wonderful people filled me with strength,” tweets President Reuven Rivlin, after meeting with mayors and religious leaders against the backdrop of expanding Arab-Jewish violence.

“This is home to us all, and we protect our home. Not with clubs and knives that sow destruction and ruin, but by maintaining law and order.

“‘If we allow every external force to rock the boat, we may as well shut up shop. If we don’t steady the ship, take responsibility, Akko will become a disappointment, not a success,'” head of the Avner pre-military academy Rabbi Ahikam Getz told me.”

“All of us, public leaders at all levels, and particularly spiritual leaders, are responsible for what happens in our communities,” Rivlin says. “We must stop the cycle of violence. That is what is needed right now.”
