Egypt court sentences 11 to death

A Cairo court hands death sentences to 11 defendants in the deaths of more than 70 people during a soccer match at the Port Said stadium three years ago, Israel Radio reports.

The verdict was transferred to the Egyptian mufti, who has final say on whether the execution will be implemented.

The riot erupted during a match between the El Masry and El Ahly clubs on February 1, 2012. Seventy-two people were killed and more than 500 injured in the altercations that ensued, when El Masry fans attacked fans of the opposing team.
