Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accuses Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “following the path of Hitler” as the two continue to trade barbs after the Israeli leader alleged he was an “antisemitic dictator” who had committed a “genocide” against the Kurds.
“Those who follow Hitler’s path should not forget their fate will be like that of other tyrants in history,” Erdogan says.
“Under the current administration, Israel has become a factory churning out distress, fueled solely by blood and tears, and producing nothing but instability and chaos,” he adds, vowing to “ensure the perpetrators of such massacres were held accountable.”
The latest exchange erupted after Erdogan on Wednesday said Israel’s actions in Lebanon and Syria were a threat to Turkish security.
Netanyahu hit back, pledging to continue military action wherever needed to deal with the security threat from Iran and its proxies.
“The antisemitic dictator Erdogan, who commits genocide against the Kurds, supports the Hamas terrorist organization, oppresses his own people and imprisons political rivals, is the last person who can lecture Israel on morality,” he said in a statement.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
