The IDF will be releasing from reserve duty members of civil defense squads in northern border communities, as the ceasefire with Hezbollah appears to hold.
The members of the local security teams had been called up to reserve duty during the war with Iran, and when fighting with Hezbollah escalated.
Civil defense squad members normally have civilian jobs alongside their volunteering. During wars, the IDF has recruited them to serve as “area defense force” soldiers in reserve duty.
In a letter sent to the civil defense squads by a senior officer in the Northern Command, they are notified that, as of Sunday, they are being released from reserve duty.
The local security team members will continue in their roles as civilians and keep their weapons in case of sudden incidents.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
