Jordan says it won’t give Druze refugees safe passage
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA Jordanian government spokesperson says Amman doesn’t intend to allow Druze refugees to enter the Hashemite Kingdom should there be massacres of the sect in southern Syria.
“If Jordan can help Syrians in a way which is in line with the humanitarian framework and with our policy concerning Syria, we will help,” Muhammad al-Mumani tells Arabic-language media. “But we won’t intervene in the Syrian issue.”
Mumani’s remarks come after reports of a meeting between King Abdullah of Jordan and Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt about safeguarding Syrian Druze.
Jordan is home to roughly 30,000 Druze.
