Man arrested in Rahat on suspicion of affiliation with Islamic State

An 18-year-old man from the southern city of Rahat has been arrested for alleged affiliation with the Islamic State jihadist group.
The suspect will be brought before a Beersheba court later today to extend his remand.
“The Israel Police and the Shin Bet security service take very seriously any involvement or affiliation of Israeli citizens in terror activity, and will continue to work to investigate the truth while prosecuting those who seek to harm citizens and security forces,” police say in a statement.
The announcement comes days after two police officers were killed in an attack in Hadera, committed by two Arab Israelis who were apparent supporters of Islamic State.
Last week, four people were killed in a ramming and stabbing attack in the southern city of Beersheba by a man who had served four years in prison for plotting to join the fundamentalist terror group in Syria.
