Palestinians insist on full withdrawal to 1967 lines, says Abbas

As Israel marks Jerusalem Day, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas vows that he will only accept a full Israeli withdrawal from all territory captured by Israel during the 1967 Six Day War.

“Our nation will not agree in any way to less than a full end to the Israeli occupation that began in June 1967 and the establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian state,” Abbas says, according to the Palestinian media.

“The Palestinian leadership adheres to the principle of a two-state solution. The Palestinian side rejects any attempt to alter the Arab initiative.”

Israel took control of East Jerusalem and the West Bank from Jordan, the Gaza Strip from Egypt and the Golan Heights from Syria during the conflict. The Palestinians seek to establish their own state in the West Bank and Gaza.
