#SummerinSyria, predictably, hijacked

Syria’s state news agency called on readers to share photos of summertime fun in Syria, but almost too predictably the hashtag #SummerinSyria was quickly hijacked by Twitter users sharing images of civil war atrocities.

One user poked fun by cropping President Bashar Assad’s face onto the body of Dr. Evil, the villain from the comedy film Austin Powers, saying “Summer in Syria, had me a ‘blast'” alongside a picture of a barrel bomb.
