Man drowns, 2nd killed by police boat propeller amid rescue attempt off Jaffa beach

Two people were killed Saturday evening at Aliyah Beach in Jaffa as four people, all from the same East Jerusalem family, attempted to rescue a fifth individual drowning in the water, police and medics said.
The rescuers soon found themselves in danger as they set out to save the man amid high waves and turbulent winds, police said.
One of them was swept away into the sea, where he was hit by the propeller of a police boat, according to police. It was unclear if the vessel had been taking part in rescue efforts.
The two victims, both 25 years old, were pulled out of the water by police and pronounced dead after paramedics failed to resuscitate them on the spot.
Two others, a 13-year-old and a 19-year-old, were injured but managed to make it back to shore.
Paramedics found both out of the water, bleeding and suffering from injuries to their limbs. They were taken to Wolfson Medical Center for further treatment, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.
Police said they later found the fifth man alive and well on Aliyah Beach.
The Israel Port Authority has launched an investigation into the incident, police said.
