Palestinian woman tries to stab IDF soldier, is shot

Israeli soldiers shot a Palestinian woman as she attempted to stab one of them at a bus stop near the West Bank settlement of Ariel on Tuesday evening, the army said.

None of the soldiers was hurt in the incident.

The extent of the woman’s injuries was not immediately clear.

She received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment, a military spokesperson said.

A video filmed by a driver passing by the scene showed a woman on the ground wearing what appears to be a hijab bleeding from her torso next to the highway, surrounded by soldiers.

The incident occurred at the Gitai interchange outside of Ariel in the northern West Bank.

After a few months of comparative calm, a rash of terror attacks have taken place in the West Bank and Israel proper in recent weeks.

Last Friday, Rabbi Miki Mark was killed when his car was shot up outside of Hebron, in an attack that also left his wife and two children injured.

The day before, a 17-year-old Palestinian broke into the Kiryat Arba settlement and stabbed to death 13-year-old Hallel Yaffa Ariel as she slept in her bed.

In response, the IDF has set up a closure on Hebron — the most populous city in the West Bank — and on Bani Na’im, the hometown of several terrorists.
