A teenage boy died Sunday, a day after drowning in a swimming pool in the central village of Burgeta.

Or Scorcero, a 15-year-old resident of the nearby community of Bat Hefer, was pulled from the pool after becoming submerged on Saturday.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene tried to resuscitate Scorcero, and took him to Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, the Magen David Ambulance service said in a statement.

The hospital said that it fought to save the teen, but declared him dead on Sunday.

The National Transplant Center said that Scorcero’s parents, Yuval and Dana, had agreed to donate their son’s organs.

“The light in Or’s eyes will pass on with love and will be given to those who need it in their lives,” the parents said in a statement.

The Bat Hefer local council released a statement sending their condolences to the Scorceros.

“The Scorcero family are veterans of the community from the time it was founded, involved and influential, and all of us share in their pain,” the statement read.

The Emek Hefer Regional Council also said it was “pained and grieving” over the death.

According to data from the Beterem organization for children’s safety, nine children have drowned since the start of 2023.
