Domestic violence suspect stabs arresting officer, is shot dead

Taibe man was suspected of assaulting his wife and a man he believed to be her lover; incident leaves cop with light injuries

A man suspected of stabbing his wife and her purported lover was shot dead by police in the northern town of Taibe on Saturday, after he also attacked an officer with a knife.

Police went to arrest the 27-year-old man, a resident of the predominantly Arab town, after he left with his wife with serious stab wounds and her suspected boyfriend with light injuries, the Walla news website reported.

But the suspect was shot when he also stabbed one of the police officers, lightly wounding him.

Both the suspect and police officer were taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, where the suspect later died of his wounds.

Channel 10 quoted the police as saying that the officer, who was in a police car at the time of the attack, had been in mortal danger, while witnesses claimed that the officer had not needed to respond so forcefully.
