A man and a woman were stabbed to death on Monday in an apartment in the central city of Lod.

The suspect, the female victim’s ex-husband, was arrested by police at the scene after he tried to kill himself.

He was evacuated to Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in serious condition.

Police were alerted to the incident after receiving a phone call from a concerned bystander who told them of the commotion in the apartment, Channel 2 reported.

The stabber also called the police, apparently before he stabbed himself.

Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the building on Rehov Admonit, where they found an unconscious man with multiple stab wounds to his upper body near the elevators.

Medics tried to resuscitate the man, but eventually declared him dead at the scene.

The man was apparently the female victim’s current partner.

He had tried to escape the carnage but succumbed to his wounds, the report said.

MDA medic Yosef Ismail described the scene as emergency rescuers entered the home.

“Inside the apartment, lying on the floor, was a woman in her 30s, unconscious, not breathing, with no pulse and with signs of violence to her body,” he said.

“She had no signs of life and we declared her dead at the scene. A man in his 30s who was nearby was suffering from knife wounds to his body and was fully conscious. We treated him and evacuated him to the hospital in a serious condition.”

Earlier in the day, a man, 24, was shot dead in a drive-by shooting in the neighboring city of Ramle.
