Jerusalem mother admits to killing her two kids

Police on Wednesday interrogated a mother who admitted to stabbing her two children to death and attempting suicide thereafter, Channel 10 reported.

Carina Brill, 36, told police her version of the events of Monday morning from a hospital bed at Hadassah Ein Kerem. She explained that she committed the deed because she “felt [she] was not a good enough mother for the children.”

Emergency services found the children, Igor, 7, and Maria, 5, with multiple stab wounds in an apartment on Ein Gedi Street, in the Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem, according to police.

Brill remained hospitalized in stable condition following Monday’s incident with multiple stab wounds on the upper part of her body.

The father of the dead children told Channel 10 that he had no indication that Brill would commit such an act.

“If I had known, I would have taken them immediately,” Dmitri Brill, who resides in Russia, said.

Initial reports said that the mother’s sister, who was in the apartment at the time, called police after she awoke to the sound of screams as her sister attacked the children. A police official said the sister was an eyewitness to the attack and unsuccessfully tried to stop the mother.

The Channel 10 report indicated that Brill’s testimony to the police matched her sister’s.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found Brill had barricaded herself in the home and broke in, finding the two children already dead and the mother severely injured.
