The Shin Bet security service Tuesday said it arrested a 22-year-old Palestinian man trying to bring “approximately ten thousand Jordanian dinars [$14,000, or NIS 51,000]” to Hamas in the West Bank through the Allenby border crossing from Jordan.
According to the Shin Bet announcement, the money was going to be used to “fund terrorist activities.” The arrest took place on Saturday
The Palestinian suspect was identified as Ez al-Din Darabia, from the village of Yatir, outside Hebron.
“Security forces will continue to work to uncover and thwart attempts by terrorist groups to smuggle money and material through crossings for terrorist activities, without harming the activities of the crossings and those that pass through them,” the Shin Bet said in an English-language statement.
The security service added that “Recent operations have uncovered several cases that underscore the continuing efforts by terrorist organizations to transfer funds and war material into Israeli territory by exploiting the humanitarian easements that the State of Israel provides to the Palestinian population.”
