A military police investigation was opened Thursday after a video surfaced online of a soldier cooking a live bird while in an IDF kitchen facility.
The IDF has identified the soldier, who is to be questioned and possibly indicted for animal cruelty.
The video is a “severe case” which “does not match the values of the IDF,” a military spokesman said.
The 33-second video shows the soldier, wearing military khaki pants and a white hooded-sweatshirt, immersing a small bird in boiling water. He dunks the struggling bird several times into the pot until he confirms that it has died.
The video comes at a time when the IDF is cracking down on embarrassing or suggestive video uploads; this year has seen several instances of scantily clad female soldiers uploading video clips while on base.
Reportedly, the IDF brass intends to encourage acceptable video uploads by IDF personnel by having them approved and posted on the official IDF Facebook and Youtube pages.
