Monaco Royal Charlotte Casiraghi and the French Jewish comedian Gad Elmaleh embraced their first son.
The baby, Raphael, was born Tuesday at Princess Grace Hospital Center in Monaco, the AFP news agency reported.
“Charlotte Casiraghi and Gad Elmaleh are delighted to announce the birth of their son, Raphael, born in Monaco,” said a statement from the palace. “The grandmothers are doing well,” the couple added with a touch of humor.
Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline, is herself not a princess, but is a celebrity in France, where media often report about the Monaco royal family.
Elmaleh, a French Jew of Moroccan ancestry, is one of France’s best-known actors. His stand-up shows feature many references to his Jewish family, including their habit of splurging on bar mitzvahs and triggering guilt in sons and daughters for not visiting or calling often enough.
