The crew and air marshal on a United Airlines flight that departed from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport were forced to get creative Wednesday, using cable ties to secure a belligerent passenger to his seat after his behavior threatened to disrupt the flight.
Perhaps due to the creative effort by the crew and the undercover agent, the pilot decided an emergency landing was not necessary, and the New Jersey-bound plane arrived safely and on time, the Daily Mail reported.
The passenger, a man said to be in his forties, started behaving aggressively during the 11-hour long flight.
Upon arrival at Newark airport, in New Jersey, he was escorted off the plane by four police officers.
“United flight 85 from Tel Aviv to Newark arrived on schedule following a situation that occurred when a flight attendant attempted to help calm an agitated customer,” United Airlines told MailOnline Travel.
“The flight attendant was not injured. Though law enforcement officials met the aircraft as a precaution, customers and crew members exited and departed normally,” the airline added.
A video uploaded to YouTube Thursday showed crew members gathering to one row of seats, apparently to tie the man down.
US-bound flights from Israel have faced other difficulties recently. Last month, American airlines announced it was canceling its sole route to Israel. The company cited financial reasons as the reason for the decision, rejecting claims by Israeli media that politics were to blame.
