The future is here: A new AI division has opened at the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science
AI is a superpower, a tool that can be used in every aspect of life.
“The future is already here”, says Prof. Yacov Hel-Or, Dean of the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science. “The moment we have been preparing for for the past few years is here.” Prof. Hel-Or is referring to the massive, unavoidable wave of AI developments sweeping the world. He also references the opening of the new AI Division after years of gradually adding more AI-related courses to the curriculum and changing the status of existing courses. An example of this includes making an elective on programming with AI tools a mandatory course. This new division is offered to second- and third-year Computer Science students, yet most courses are offered to third-year students.
Prof. Hel-Or repeats a very famous notion regarding the widespread use of AI in all aspects of life; AI is not exclusive to computer science. Computer science is no longer confined to a standalone discipline of algorithmic and abstract reasoning, but has evolved into a fundamental tool that every researcher, in every field, must have in their toolbox. To be more specific, AI is a superpower, a tool that can be used in every aspect of life. If you know basic programming and how to manage AI agents, you will succeed in the AI-ruled world, but if you don’t, you will be replaced by someone who does know!
What would the future look like?
Prof. Hel-Or predicts that some subjects and professions will disappear, and the rest will adapt themselves. When asked if a machine can truly be better than humans, he says that in the future, whether near or far, machines will be smarter and better than humans, and he believes that this moment is closer than we think. “AI is no longer the future – it is the language of the present.”
