A suspect was arrested Saturday for the attempted robbery of acclaimed Israeli chef Shalom Kadosh, who was seriously wounded during the incident.
The suspect is Ali Adkidak, 41, from East Jerusalem, who has a prior criminal record and was recently released from prison, Hebrew media reports said.
His remand was extended Sunday by another four days.
On Sunday, Kadosh, 74, tried to chase a thief at a gas station after the man stole his wallet from his car. The two tussled and Kadosh fell, banging his head hard on the ground. He was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center and remains in serious condition.
Kadosh was identified by the press on Friday.
The robbery took place hours before the wedding of Kadosh’s daughter, Channel 12 reported.
Security footage from the scene showed the incident unfold.
Kadosh is considered one of the most well-known Israeli chefs, cooking for many world leaders.
In January 2020 he prepared the food for the World Holocaust Forum in Israel, which included 41 heads of state.
Doctors at Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital said they were fighting for his life.
