Mother-of-5 dies of wounds from shooting outside Haifa nightclub
Police open investigation into incident, which apparently followed altercation in which Odiya Gabai, 33, was not involved; suspects detained for questioning

A woman was declared dead at a Haifa hospital on Saturday, after she was critically wounded in a shooting outside a nightclub in the early hours of the morning.
Hebrew media named the woman as Odiya Gabai, a 33-year-old mother of five from the Krayot area near Haifa.
Police opened an investigation into the shooting, which they said did not appear to be terror-related. Hebrew media reports said police suspect the shooting was the result of a scuffle that escalated, in which the woman was not involved.
Channel 12 reported that the victim was shot outside the nightclub on Haifa’s Allenby Street, and was taken to Rambam Medical Center.
Medics at the hospital were forced to pronounce the woman dead after resuscitation attempts failed.
Ynet quoted Haifa police superintendent Yossi Atias as saying that “several people connected to the nightclub were detained and arrested. They are under investigation. The case was given top priority – it is being handled by all the units in the district.”
Atias also reportedly said that the police did not yet know whether the fight broke out inside or outside the venue.
Last week, the Israel Women’s Network said in a statement that in 2024, a woman has been killed in Israel every two weeks, in what it said was a 75 percent increase compared to the previous year. The statement came in response to the separate deaths of two women in the north within hours of each other at the beginning of March.
