Dutch filmmakers offer charming portraits of a nation, from the very young to the not-so
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA pair of Dutch filmmakers released a Israeli man-on-the-street clip with a twist: rather than interviews, the video features 101 Israelis, from babes to a centenarian, simply reciting their ages in front of the camera — and offering a portrait of Israeli society in all of its diversity.
In the three-minute clip, which was filmed in Israel over a two-year period and posted to YouTube last week, Israelis of various religious and ethnic backgrounds tell filmmakers Maya Cohen and Tom Roes in Hebrew — at times gleefully, at times bashfully — just how old they are.
The two said they decided to approach locals while visiting Israel, after they were inspired by a similar 2012 project by Dutch filmmaker Jeroen Wolf.
Cohen and Roes said it took them three separate trips to Israel in 2014 and 2015 to complete the project.
