101-year-old Galilee man dies of hypothermia

Kibbutz member was found in his home in critical condition, following sudden drop in temperatures

A 101-year-old Israeli man died from hypothermia on Saturday, medical personnel reported, after he was found freezing in his home on a kibbutz in the Western Galilee.

The man was brought to hospital in Nahariya, Israel Radio reported, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the radio, the man was discovered in critical condition, suffering from severe hypothermia, and had a body temperature of 30.7°C.

The incident comes two days after a homeless man died from hypothermia in the coastal city of Bat Yam, the first fatality in a series of incidents caused by the sudden drop in temperatures during the week.

Since last week, there have been four other incidents of hypothermia, as temperatures in many parts of the country dropped to freezing.
