11 inmates injured in Beersheba prison blaze
Prisoners suffer from smoke inhalation after setting fire to a mattress
A fire broke out in Beersheba’s Ohalei Keidar prison early Saturday morning, injuring 11 inmates.
Prison guards evacuated the ward and three firefighting crews rushed to the scene to put out the blaze, which apparently started after prisoners set fire to a mattress.
The inmates, most of whom suffered from smoke inhalation, received treatment at the prison. One of them required additional treatment and was transferred to Soroka Hospital.
Prison Services officials launched an investigation into the incident.
