Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old Israeli from Migdal HaEmek after he allegedly reentered the country fraudulently as a new immigrant, two years after fleeing abroad to evade paying taxes.

The man confessed to charges of fraud, Ynet reported.

He allegedly left Israel for Morocco two years ago while fleeing tax authorities.

Last month he returned to Israel with a false identity and, taking advantage of his status as a new immigrant, received the sal klita, or absorption basket — a special government aid package for olim.
