The Israel Police have opened an investigation into Al-Aqsa preacher Sheikh Ekrima Sabri after he delivered a eulogy for slain Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh during Friday prayers.

In his sermon, Sabri said that “the residents of Jerusalem are praying to God to have mercy on the martyr. We are asking for him to receive compassion and paradise.”

The police say they are investigating whether Sabri’s words contained incitement to violence.

In addition, one suspect was detained at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on the Temple Mount for incitement during prayer services.
