Chabad rabbi sentenced in major tax fraud
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA Chabad rabbi is sentenced by the Tel Aviv District Court to two years in prison after being convicted of a major tax fraud involving millions of shekels.
Yosef Aharonov, who was head of Agudat Tze’iri Chabad (The Chabad Youth Society), admitted that he had for nine years received donations intended for the Chabad movement but did not report them. Also, the society’s employees did not report sources of income and received financial aid from the Education Ministry illegally.
Aharonov is also fined NIS 500,000.
