Health Ministry invites medical professionals to sign up for volunteer work in case of escalation

Renee Ghert-Zand is the health reporter and a feature writer for The Times of Israel.

In response to thousands of people in and outside Israel offering to volunteer in the healthcare system as Israel fights a war against the Hamas terror group, the Health Ministry states that it is currently sufficiently staffed.

However, the ministry is preparing for a possible scenario in which the healthcare system is overburdened due to a potential extreme escalation. As part of this effort, it is creating a database of all those interested in volunteering should the need arise.

Israel would welcome people of the following professions to sign up to volunteer: doctors, dentists, nurses and nursing students, paramedics, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, communication therapists, psychologists, pharmacists, and physician assistants. All must hold a valid license to practice either in Israel or abroad.

However, for foreign residents, it is mainly doctors who are requested to sign up. Nurses and paramedics can also do so, but not people of the other listed professions.

Individuals not from these professions can also register to volunteer to help with administration, logistics and transportation.

Those interested should fill out one of the following online forms (according to where they live). The Health Ministry will review the submissions and be in touch with respondents should the need for their assistance arise.

For residents of Israel.

For residents of other countries.
