Plane carrying Evan Gershkovich, other freed prisoners lands in US

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Maryland — Journalist Evan Gershkovich and fellow prisoners released by Russia have landed in the United States, an AFP journalist reports, as part of an extraordinary swap deal between Washington and Moscow.

A plane carrying Gershkovich, former US marine Paul Whelan, and journalist Alsu Kurmasheva landed at around 11:40 p.m. local time at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, where President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are waiting to greet them.
