An unvaccinated one-year-old toddler from Jerusalem has died of measles, the Health Ministry says.

This is the third child who has died from measles since May, the beginning of an outbreak that is now active in Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Harish, Jerusalem, Modi’in Illit and Nof HaGalil.

The Ministry says that 24 measles patients are hospitalized, including eight children in intensive care, with one on a ventilator. Most of the patients are children up to the age of six who have not been vaccinated against measles.

Measles is a highly contagious, life-threatening viral disease that is preventable through an effective and safe vaccine.

For those who feel unwell, it is important to avoid gatherings so that others will not be infected.
