US says it struck Iranian military targets in recent days after drone downed in international waters

The US military carried out several “self-defense strikes” against Iranian military targets over the weekend after a US drone was shot down in international waters, US Central Command (CENTCOM) says.

In a statement, CENTCOM says it hit “radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island.”

It says that the strikes, launched on Saturday and Sunday, were carried out in response to “aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a US MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters.”

“US fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters,” CENTCOM says.

The statement adds that no US troops were harmed in the incident.
